With season 2 of The Mandalorian set to be released in the coming weeks, a detail from the trailer may have teased the inclusion of the Hutt family.

Last month, Star Wars fans rejoiced with the release of the first trailer for season 2 of the Disney Plus series, The Mandalorian.

While not giving away too much, the trailer showed off what fans can expect to see in the coming season, such as the continued adventures of Mando and the Child, the planets they will travel to, a few old characters — in addition to new inclusions — and it may have also teased an appearance by a famous crime family.

Based on what we do know about season 2, we do know that part of the show will take place on Tatooine, which has lead to a lot of speculation that Boba Fett will be making his live-action return in the franchise. Fett was last seen falling into the Sarlac Pitt during the fight on Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge in Return of the Jedi.

While Fett’s death appears to be ambiguous, Jabba the Hutt did die shortly after when his barge was blown up by Luke Skywalker. But while Jabba may be dead, we could see a few members of the Hutt family make an appearance in The Mandalorian.

As for what teased this, during the trailer, we see Mando and the Child enter what appears to be an underground fighting ring, with two Gamorrean’s fighting in the middle of the ring. Gamorreans are the pig-like creatures that served as guards at Jabba’s palace.

This gives us a clue that this scene takes place during Mando’s trip to Tatooine, and that the Hutt’s may be the ones hosting the fights, or at least, sponsoring the fighters.

Jabba was a fan favorite among Star Wars fans, and seeing as the show does include a fair bit of fan service, this surely isn’t a far fetched theory.

Additionally, we have already seen one of his children, Rotta, in The Clone Wars series as a child. But by this time period, he would likely be fully grown. If not him, the writers could simply create more members of the Hutt family for the show.

Regardless of who it is, Jabba likely had a line of succession to who would take over his syndicate in the event of his death, and this show would be a prime candidate to introduce the new leader of the infamous Tatooine crime lord.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney Plus on Oct. 30, 2020.
