Pedro Pascal is revealing how seeing Baby Yoda convinced him to accept his role on The Mandalorian.

Actor Pedro Pascal has seen a lot of success in recent years. From starring in Game of Thrones to the upcoming movie Wonder Woman 1984, he certainly has been keeping busy. But some fans (and Star Wars fans for sure) may know him best as Din Djarin, or Mando, in The Mandalorian.

With the newest season ready to hit Disney+ on Oct. 30, Pascal was featured in Varietyand he revealed a lot about his past work, trying to make it big, and why he decided to join The Mandalorian. Truly, we can’t imagine wanting to turn something down that’s part of the Star Wars universe. No matter what the reception, it’s always going to be big no matter what, and that’s exactly what Pascal was thinking.

He told Variety: “I hope this doesn’t sound like me fashioning myself like I’m, you know, so smart, but I agreed to do this [show] because the impression I had when I had my first meeting was that this is the next big s—.”

Luckily, showrunner Jon Favreau was in agreement and very much wanted Pascal to be a part of the series. Variety reports that Favreau was able to let Pascal see the storyboards for The Mandalorian ahead of accepting the role, just so he could get a better feel for this once-in-a-lifetime project.

“When he walked in, it must have felt a little surreal,” Favreau said in the feature story. “You know, most of your experiences as an actor, people are kicking the tires to see if it’s a good fit. But in this case, everything was locked and loaded.”

During that same meeting, Pascal even got to know one of the biggest secrets of them all: the reveal of Baby Yoda. As Pascal recalled when looking at the storyboards: “Literally, my eyes following left to right, up and down, and, boom, Baby Yoda close to the end of the first episode. That was when I was like, ‘Oh, yep, that’s a winner!’”

That little anecdote was preceded by quite possibly the best quote in the entire interview, with Pascal roaring and ready to talk about Baby Yoda, saying: “Can we just cut the s— and talk about the Child?”

Unfortunately, that’s about all they were able to say about The Child. No discussion on his background or teasers about what happens to him in season 2. But it’s interesting to know that Favreau was so trusting and willing to let Pascal know about Baby Yoda before even committing to the show. Of course, after seeing something as cute and exciting as that, it’s basically the ace in the hole. And as you can see, there was no way of turning something like that down.

Now, in just a matter of days, we’ll get to see what else Baby Yoda and the Mandalorian will be up to. We saw an extra scene that gave us a sneak peek of this yesterday in a new TV spot. But we’ll have to be patient ’til all is revealed beginning Oct. 30.
