Star Wars actor John Boyega is speaking out once again about his time in Star Wars and under what conditions he would return.

John Boyega has had, if anything, a contentious relationship with the Star Wars franchise in his last few years playing Finn in the sequel trilogy. He was been outspoken on the treatment that he has received from fans, and has also voiced criticisms in the past with the direction that the story was taken.

With all of this being said, it’s no surprise that Boyega has stated that he was likely done with the character of Finn and was looking towards the future, telling a fan on Twitter that he had moved on. Finn will be featured in the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special releasing next month, but Boyega is not listed as the voice actor, something that he had done in the past with the Battlefront II videogame.

However, Boyega may be changing his tune now, as he has potentially opened the door back up for a return into a galaxy far, far away. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Boyega revealed that his foray into Star Wars may not be over after all:

"I don’t know what’s going on with Star Wars. I’m alive, that’s one thing, but it would depend on the story and if Daisy [Ridley] and Oscar [Isaac] are coming back. I wouldn’t want to be running around by myself."

The close relationship between Boyega and his co-stars Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isacc has been well documented. That being said, it’s not surprising that Boyega would only want to return to Star Wars on the condition that his closest friends from the films would be coming back as well.

While the prospect of Boyega, Ridley, or Isaac portraying their respective characters in future films is unlikely, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to incorporate them into stories. Lucasfilm has done very well with television in particular, and the success of Disney+’s The Mandalorian may give the company the green light to make more TV shows.

Many fans were upset with the way Finn’s character was handled, particularly in Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, so the chance to flesh out his story a bit may be a chance that is too good for Boyega to pass up. Perhaps Ridley and Isaac will return with him. In the end, only time will tell.
