LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special: Rey will meet Darth Vader and many more
By Mia Johnson
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be full of some truly time-bending adventures throughout the Skywalker saga.
If you were thinking about passing up on the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, you might want to think again. Some new information is being revealed about the plot of the special, and it’s starting to sound too good to ignore, whether it’s aimed at younger audiences or not.
Entertainment Weekly shared more details about the special, which will be out on Disney+ Nov. 15, and there’s a lot of fun in store. The premise, according to this, is that on the infamous Life Day holiday, Rey finds a Jedi Temple. And upon entering it, she gets thrown on an adventure throughout time — and one that takes her through many different moments in the Skywalker saga.
Part of that includes coming face-to-face with Darth Vader himself. And as EW teased in a new photo, it includes Rey facing off against him using her yellow lightsaber against his classic red one. Talk about a duel of the fates! According to the story, in Rey’s time travels, she’ll also meet a young Kylo Ren (we’re sure some fans will absolutely love this part) as well as a young Luke Skywalker.
On top of that, there will also be three versions of Obi-Wan Kenobi throughout his life as well as two Han Solos. And we should have known just by one of the promotional images for the special. If you zoom into the photo below, you can clearly see a bunch of multiple or mismatched characters battling against one another.
On the left side, we can see all three Obi-Wan Kenobis fighting alongside Mace Windu and Han Solo. Also on their team looks to be the young pre-Jedi Anakin Skywalker. On the righthand side, you have Episode III Anakin Skywalker with Greedo (or some Rodian) on his side. There’s also half of Darth Maul and a Sith Trooper among various others.
If it sounds just like the way you used to play with your LEGOs and toys as a child, that’s exactly the purpose. Executive producer James Waugh told EW in the story:
"We started realizing that the way they play with them isn’t with canonical separation, it’s not, ‘Let’s put all the classic trilogy sets here, the prequel sets here, new sequel sets here.’ My son literally just dumps his bucket out. We realized that was a play pattern that could actually inform the fun of this show."
So this really is just a whimsical, fun take on the Star Wars universe. No need to abide by canon rules or anything like that. And the freedom of doing so should make for one wild adventure that we can’t wait to see.
Look out for the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special to arrive on Disney+ on Nov. 15.
