Is the Mandalorian officially cooler than Boba Fett?
Din Djarin has become a beloved Star Wars character ever since the release of The Mandalorian on Disney +. But has he officially passed up another iconic bounty hunter as the coolest in the galaxy?
The Mandalorian has become perhaps Disney’s most well-received Star Wars content. While Baby Yoda has undoubtedly become the show’s breakout star, the show’s namesake, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, is loved by many fans as well. A lot of this probably has to do with him simply being a Mandalorian. They have cool gear, look cool, and are overall an awesome faction.
However, Mandalorian warriors are a particularly mysterious group, and one that we have not ever seen that many of. Before The Mandalorian, the most well-known individual was Boba Fett. Fett made his canon debut in the Star Wars Holiday Special (which we won’t talk about) and broke onto the big screen in The Empire Strikes Back. Despite very little screen time in the theatrical films, he has become a cult favorite and one of Star Wars’ most enduring characters, with his own online fan club to boot.
However, has Boba Fett been passed up? Is Din Djarin now the new cult favorite Mandalorian? It’s hard to say, namely because we really haven’t seen all that much of either character. While Din Djarin does have his own show, not that much is really known about him yet. While he does receive a bit of backstory towards the end of season one, it mostly only comes in the form of flashbacks.
On the flip side, not that much is known about Boba Fett, either. While his biography was flushed out a bit in the Clone Wars, he is still considered a mysterious character and has almost no speaking lines in the films. Despite this, part of this mysticism may be what contributed to Fett’s popularity.
While Boba Fett seemingly died in Return of the Jedi, there have been some rumors that the bounty hunter didn’t meet his demise at the hands of the Sarlacc after all. Ironically, it may be that we end up seeing the two most popular Mandalorians cross paths:
So, in general, it should probably stand that Boba Fett is still the cooler character. After all, Fett has stood the test of time, and Din Djarin simply hasn’t been fleshed out enough to this point to be considered cooler. While Djarin has become iconic to the newer generation of Star Wars fans, Boba Fett has been an enduring symbol of the awesomeness of the Mandalorian culture.
So, sorry for now, Din Djarin, but until we get some more evidence of just how awesome of a character you can be, Boba Fett still retains the title of the coolest bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe. Perhaps that will start to change when season 2 of The Mandalorian begins streaming October 30th on Disney +.
