Survival is something all characters in Star Wars must go through at some point. For Ahsoka Tano, learning how to survive is something she had to endure twice.

Ahsoka Tano’s survival skills were developed from a very early age. By the time she was 14, she’d learned from Grand Master Yoda how to deflect blaster bolts. However, most of her teachings were taken from the Chosen One himself, Anakin Skywalker. Despite butting heads with her teacher, they ended up becoming very close. Nicknamed Snips, the teenager was one of the few individuals who could detect when the future Darth Vader needed space and time for himself.

Tano often had to adapt her survival skills on the fly, especially during two critical times in her life: Order 66 and her duel with Darth Vader. Both these events shaped her into a fierce warrior that didn’t need to rely on being a Jedi to live through the roughness of having individuals go after her.

A survival tale: Order 66

Ahsoka’s survival skills were able to help her during one of the most devastating events in galactic history: Order 66. By the time this moment happened, Tano had left the Jedi Order after she lost faith in the organization that had raised her. She’d been framed for crimes she would never commit and the only people who believed her innocence was Anakin, Padmé, and Asajj Ventress who had been framed too.

Having reunited with Anakin and Obi-Wan, Ahsoka was given the task of going after former Sith Maul on Mandalore. Before he leaves to rescue Palpatine, Skywalker issues her lightsabers with blue blades. He even gifts her a portion of the 501st who had their helmets painted with her face markings.

While on the haunt for Maul, Rex (a clone of Jango Fett) suddenly turns on her and she is forced to make the decision to let the former Sith assassin go or to save her friend. In the end, she chooses to save her second-in-command. She is forced to knock him out so she can pull the biochip from his head.

Ahsoka’s ability to adapt her survival skills ended up saving her life when she went into hiding to protect herself from the Empire.

Face-to-mask with an old friend

Years after using her survival skills during Order 66, Ahsoka joins forces with the ghost crew who had joined what would eventually become the Rebel Alliance.

During a dog fight, a TIE fighter breaks off, and Kanan and Ahsoka realize the pilot is Force-sensitive. Ezra reaches out too and discovers he’s the same Sith Lord they encountered on Lothal. Tano recognizes the Force signature as Anakin’s and passes out in shock.

Sometime later on the Sith world of Malachor, Ahsoka, having come to terms with the idea of her former master having become Darth Vader, puts herself between him, a newly blinded Kanan and Ezra, giving them time escape. She confronts the friend she believed to be dead for 15 years and is almost killed as a result.

The only reason Ahsoka didn’t perish during her fight with Vader was because a future version of Ezra pulls her through the World Between Worlds just as the former Jedi is about to deliver the killing blow. Also, her survival skills kicked into high gear. She knew how he fought as he had trained her. They were evenly matched, some might say.
