Daisy Ridley is sharing her position on the recent canceling of Baby Yoda after Chapter 10 of The Mandalorian.

About two weeks ago, when season 2 episode 2 of The Mandalorian began streaming, the series’ once-darling quickly came under fire for a running gag in the episode. You can check out our breakdown of the episode for a refresher. But in a nutshell, with the Mandalorian transporting Frog Lady to her home with her unfertilized eggs, Baby Yoda found the eggs to be an enticingly yummy treat.

Unfortunately, for some, the joke didn’t land as well as it could have. And people expressed their disapproval of the gag, noting that it wasn’t very nice for Baby Yoda to eat some of the remaining eggs of the Frog Lady, and it was insensitive to women out there who have dealt with fertility struggles in real life. The debate waged on for a few days, some thinking the gag to be innocent and others finding it to be insensitive. And now, just recently, Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley has shared her own opinion on Baby Yodagate.

In an interview with IGN, the Rey actress was questioned about the topic. And for her, she couldn’t find it in her heart to cancel Baby Yoda outright for the joke. Here are two excerpts from the interview with what she had to say:

"“Oh, cancel culture,” Ridley began, with a chuckle. “Look, Mando’s gotta eat, Yoda’s got to get strong. That’s just that.”"

"But Ridley didn’t find Baby Yoda’s egg-eating cause for objection. “No, I’m like, ‘Yoda, do your thing.’ The creature [Frog Lady] got to be where she needed to be with the eggs. It’s all good. It was beautiful.”"

It appears that Ridley seems to be on the side of agreeing with the original intention behind Baby Yoda’s antics: that they are antics and just that. Since the episode aired about two weeks ago, it seems like Baby Yoda’s cancelation was short-lived. As all things go on the internet and in 2020 for sure, the show was back on the “nice list” following last week’s episode, “Chapter 11: The Heiress.

Maybe fans were distracted by the introduction of the live-action version of Bo-Katan and even the Ahsoka Tano name drop. But it looks like The Child gets to live to see another day. (Well, as IGN suggested, maybe the Child being nearly gobbled up by the sea-monster in Chapter 11 was a way to pay off his karmic debt.)

Continuing in the interview, though, Daisy Ridley also expressed how she felt about Rey’s ending in The Rise of Skywalker. And at this point with Star Wars, she feels it’s all about moving on to the next best thing. She concluded in the interview:

"I feel totally, totally satisfied with how that story finished. I just don’t know what else she could do that I didn’t have to do. Also, there are so many amazing characters in Star Wars, that it’s sort of an amazing thing. I was watching the new episode of Mandalorian, and it’s just like the places it can go beyond even where it is now is so exciting."

If you would like to see more of Rey (though not of Daisy Ridley), you can see the character in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. And if you have it in your heart to forgive The Child, you can catch him in Chapter 12 of The Mandalorian beginning Friday, Nov. 20. Each streams exclusively on Disney+.
