12. John Boyega as Finn
It’s been argued that John Boyega’s character of Finn didn’t quite have the opportunity to rise to his potential. Considering that The Rise of Skywalker only hints that he was Force-sensitive throughout the entire trilogy without actually confirming it, it seems clear that Finn’s character was a missed opportunity. Still, John Boyega’s performance of the character was exceptional. Finn is fiercely protective of Rey, and Boyega makes you feel it. But he’s also driven to do the right thing. When we first meet him, he’s a terrified stormtrooper who defects at the first opportunity that presents itself.
Boyega’s standout performance happens in The Rise of Skywalker when he takes on more of a leading role in the Resistance against the First Order. Through Boyega’s performance, Finn exhibits exceptional courage and genuine care for his friends. If Boyega would return as Finn in future Star Wars stories, perhaps Lucasfilm could give him another opportunity to show Finn’s true potential as a Star Wars character.
