14. Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
Anthony Daniels’ performance as C-3PO has been one of the most comedic of the Skywalker Saga. Daniels’ distinct voice and the way he conveys constant paranoia have made C-3PO a mainstay of the franchise. It also helps that Anthony Daniels himself was small enough to fit into the C-3PO costume so that he was not only providing the voice of the character but the distinctively awkward movements of the character as well. Daniels has done well to perform his role in response to the meaningless beeps of R2-D2, making their exchanges feel like genuine conversations throughout the series.
Daniels’ standout performance as C-3PO would have to be his first appearance in A New Hope aboard the Tantive IV. C-3PO is confused, scared, and frustrated at R2-D2 for not acting quick enough to get out of harm’s way. His constant complaining to R2-D2 gives the scene a feel of the chaos portrayed in the events on screen. The performance continues to stand out throughout the rest of A New Hope as C-3PO interacts with Luke Skywalker and eventually Han Solo.
