3. “I love you.” “I know.”

Like a few on this list, this moment is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Throughout The Empire Strikes Back, we see  Han and Leia’s relationship go from a contentious one to a romantic one. While Han is very forthcoming in his feelings for Leia, it is the former Princess of Alderaan who is very defensive against his advances and rebuffs him even after that shared kiss in the darkened corners of the Falcon.

Eventually, the gang gets captured by the Empire in Cloud City and  Darth Vader decides to test out the carbon freezing chamber on Han Solo to see if it is suitable for humans. While Han is about to be lowered to what could be his death, Leia lowers her defenses and tells Han, “I love you.” In the most bad-ass moment in the history of cinema, Han replies, “I know.” He is then lowered o what could be his doom.

This moment is both equally heartwarming and terrifying. It warms the cockles of the heart, as we now realize two of our favorite characters in Star Wars love each other, but at the same time, we don’t know if Han is going to live. We are also satisfied that Han while facing what could be his death, goes down with that roguish charm we have all loved so much up to this point.
