See some of the new concept art for The Mandalorian Chapter 13.
Friday brought us one of the most exciting episodes of The Mandalorian yet. For such a long time, fans have been waiting for the rumors to be true: that Rosario Dawson would be playing the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian. And with the arrival of The Mandalorian season 2 episode 5, “Chapter 13: The Jedi,” came the confirmation of all those rumors.
This was one of the more plot-heavy episodes too, with Ahsoka being able to connect with The Child through the Force and her revealing many things to the Mandalorian (and the audience) about the tiny little guy. For one, we learned his name is Grogu, and he was once a padawan training on Coruscant before the downfall of the Jedi. He was able to escape and now, if he wants to be trained, Mando and Grogu must go to a planet and send out a call through the Force to see if any Jedi will come to train the Child.
Visually, the episode was just as stunning as it was exciting. And during the credits, we got a glimpse at how the concept artists envisioned this chapter. Now, Star Wars has released that concept online as well. This chapter, in particular, had an interesting aesthetic to it — with the green, smoggy filter placed over the planet they were visiting — and that gets reflected in the art. We also get to see what the artists’ vision was for Ahsoka as well, especially with Rosario Dawson’s likeness in the role. You can see some of the concept art from the episode below.
Just the concept art photos alone are enough excitement — especially seeing Ahsoka Tano outside of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. It also looks like not much was changed about her character from the concept art.
One of the biggest changes only looks to be the showdown between her and the Magistrate. Judging by the concept art, it looks like they wanted the fight to be indoors. But instead, they spared the extra set and just kept things outside in the final cut.
We can’t imagine what’s in store for this week. There are only three episodes left, including episode 6, which airs this Friday. We do know that Mando and Baby Yoda have a big journey ahead of them while also trying to evade the clutches of Moff Gideon. So we just hope that they will make it out safe in the end.
