The Duchess of Mandalore: Satine

Satine Kryze served as the Duchess of Mandalore until her death. She and her sister, Bo-Katan, are seen as polar opposites. One is a pacifist while the other is a rebel. However, they had a common purpose: to protect their home planet of Mandalore.

Born on Kalevala, Satine became the Duchess of Mandalore sometime before the Blockade of Naboo. She had one goal: to break away from Mandalore’s dark past and to push it into a more positive and peaceful future.

A civil war breaks out between two warring factions where it became so big that the Jedi were forced to play peacekeepers. It was here that Satine met then-Jedi padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had accompanied his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, to help ease the tensions.

Kryze and Kenobi fell in love but knew their careers were too important to throw away so they departed away and presumably didn’t see each other speak again until the Clone Wars.

Satine’s main focus was rebuilding Mandalore to be a peaceful planet, given her strong feelings towards maintaining tranquillity, which did not last very long. Eventually, her way of dealing with situations would lead to her almost being assassinated on multiple occasions.

This ultimately led her back to Obi-Wan who would have to (awkwardly) explain their history to his friend and former student, Anakin Skywalker who would go on to tease Kenobi about his incredibly obvious attraction to Kryze.

Satine meets her demise at the hands of former Sith Lord, Darth Maul who desires revenge on Obi-Wan for cutting him in half on Naboo when he killed Kenobi’s master, Qui-Gon Jinn, and leaving him for dead.
