The Mandalorian season 2 has officially come to a close, and now we all have to wait another year to see our favorite dad Din Djarin as he moves on without his child, and hopefully Grogu and everything he’s up to next. We’re about to get into spoiler territory, so if you didn’t watch the finale of season 2, be warned.

*Spoilers ahead.*

So if you made it through the final episode, titled “The Rescue,” then you’re likely mind-blown over the ending. Whether you thought it was too much of fan-service or you got emotional over it (like I did), the appearance of an iconic Star Wars character is certainly something to talk about. As some fans speculated, Luke Skywalker came to train Grogu, and in a truly upsetting moment for Mando, left with him.

Did Sebastian Stan play Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian?

It had been rumored that Marvel actor Sebastian Stan would be playing a younger Luke Skywalker in a future Star Wars production, and even Mark Hamill has commented on the similarities in their appearances. However, The Mandalorian did not cast Stan.

Who played Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian?

While it’s not entirely surprising that Luke would be the Jedi to ultimately take Baby Yoda away, what was interesting was that it was actually Mark Hamill who played him! Well, kind of.

How did Mark Hamill play Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian?

It certainly looked like Hamill reprising his role as Luke, so how did The Mandalorian swing it? As fans know, the popular actor is 69 years old right now, and in the finale he looked just as he did in Return of the Jedi (1983).

According to Decider, Luke Skywalker is played by Max Lloyd Jones in the finale, an actor who is also known for digital body doubling. Similarly to how Star Wars has de-aged the late and great Carrie Fisher for films, The Mandalorian de-aged Mark Hamill and basically put his face over Jones’. Technology!

With The Mandalorian season 2 finale setting up a ton for what’s to come, plus that awesome post-credits scene (watch it if you haven’t yet!), I’m sure we’ll all be spending the next year coming up with tons of theories for the future of the Disney Plus Star Wars universe.
