Here’s what you need to know about The Mandalorian season 3 release date and more.

After the exciting and explosive season finale for The Mandalorian, fans want to know one thing. When does The Mandalorian season 3 premiere?

It’s a great question and one that popped into my mind too as the post-credit scene wrapped up. The good news is that we have information on when to expect The Mandalorian season 3.

The Mandalorian season 3 release date

During Disney’s recent Investor Day, the House of Mouse released a ton of new information about Star Wars, including new series we can expect to see.

The other bit of news included when we can expect to see the next season of The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told us The Mandalorian season 3 is coming out around the holiday season 2021. While not an exact date, this means roughly Christmas time.

If The Mandalorian follows the same cadence of the previous two seasons of new episodes airing on Fridays, that means we are probably looking on or around December 24, 2021, on the season 3 premiere date.

This is a bit later than the previous two seasons as they premiered in early Fall. However, this makes sense given the delays that have occurred this year due to the global pandemic. Also, there’s no rush even though we all want to watch the next season. But all that matters is that they get it right.

The Mandalorian season 3 cast

One person we know is coming back is Pedro Pascal. There’s no The Mandalorian without the title character. However, it looks as though we are going to be without Grogu. While the character we affectionately called Baby Yoda has left with Luke Skywalker, it’s unknown if we will get to see him again.

One person it seems is coming back is Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon. He’s discussed seasons 3 and 4 with People magazine recently.

"We’re living in a universe that is huge and [that has] so much to explore. So I think this show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers."

This gives us an idea about what we can expect for next season and who we might see. We’ll likely also get Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan and other Mandalorians.

Why?

The Mandalorian season 3 synopsis

We don’t yet know what the third season will be about but we do have a few ideas given how The Mandalorian’s second season ended.

While it seems the storyline with Grogu is resolved, the story with the Darksaber and Mandalore has not. Bo-Katan wants to reclaim the ancient weapon to ascend to the throne of Mandalore. The issue is that Din Djarin has the Darksaber after defeating Moff Gideon and taking it from him.

Din can’t just give it to Bo-Katan because as Moff Gideon said in the season finale, it’s about the legend of the blade. You need to defeat the person in combat for rightful claim over the blade. The look on Bo-Katan’s face said it all when she saw that Mando had it.

While Moff Gideon didn’t know he would win, it seemed like his last parting shot toward Bo-Katan.

If we go back to Esposito’s quote to People about there being so much more to explore in the universe, the series is going beyond the story we already know.

With all the new series that are expected to arrive to Disney+, there is also the chance for major crossovers. New shows including Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, the Ahsoka series and The Book of Boba Fett could lead to crossover episodes — almost like the Chicago franchise or Grey’s Anatomy universe where crossover events have become a yearly thing.
