The untitled Kevin Feige-produced Star Wars film is gaining the Loki series writer for the new project.
Star Wars is getting more Marvel by the minute, and it makes sense seeing how the two franchises are joined at the hip by the magic of its parent company, Disney. And today, a new report says Star Wars is going to be getting another new Marvel addition to its team in the form of a writer for an upcoming movie.
According to Deadline in a story posted today, Lucasfilm has picked up Michael Waldron to write the untitled Kevin Feige-produced Star Wars film. On the Marvel side, Waldron’s picked up two projects. The first of his titles include being the creator and head writer for the Loki series coming to Disney+. Waldron is also writing the script for the Sam Raimi-directed film Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness — so it seems Waldron is keeping plenty busy at Disney.
What does this mean for Star Wars fans when it comes to the film? Well, we can only guess what’s to come in this new era of Star Wars movies with so much at play. We know that the Skywalker saga is concluded, so the plot of this film will have to be widely different from the others. (Or about as different as they can make it considering even The Mandalorian couldn’t leave the Skywalkers out of it.) Second, we’ll probably have to do plenty of waiting for this movie, as Deadline mentioned it wasn’t one of the films announced during the Disney Investor Day presentation in December.
We do know that Patty Jenkins will be the first person up with her movie Star Wars: Rogue Squadron coming out by Christmas 2023. And then Marvel favorite Taika Waititi’s film will be the next movie to come out around 2025. This leaves Feige’s film to possibly take the last designated Star Wars spot, which is slated for 2027, so we’ve got plenty of time to figure things out until then — and so do Feige and Waldron.
Overall, with the success of the MCU and Kevin Feige’s planning, we can assume that the Star Wars movie will be a success as well. Iron Man director Jon Favreau came over to Star Wars via The Mandalorian, and it went off without a hitch. So by those means, the movie is in safe hands. Though, we all know a big part of the success comes down to the plot of the movie and its script, so a lot of that weight falls to Waldron as well. We’ve yet to see any of his Marvel projects. But Loki is set to come out in May, and the trailer looks absolutely promising. So we’re hoping the series follows suit, and so will the Star Wars movie.
