New rumors say the Ahsoka series has an interesting connection to Star Wars Rebels.

Disney+ is moving along with its plan to expand the Star Wars universe via new television series. We’ve just seen the end of another successful run for The Mandalorian, and that second season was used as a launching point for several of the upcoming series, including the Ahsoka spinoff.

As we saw in the episode that featured Ahsoka Tano’s live-action debut, we didn’t know much about what Ahsoka was up to until the very end of the episode. She hunted the wicked Magistrate, and once she finally got to her, she wanted to know where Grand Admiral Thrawn was. As many had guessed, this would not only tie into the search for Ezra Bridger of Star Wars Rebels, but it could also be the focus of her then-rumored live-action series.

Now, according to Kessel Run Transmissions (via Comic Book Movie), there’s word that these guesses may be true to what we’ll see in the actual spinoff. Here’s what they had to say on the podcast:

"Basically what’s going down is that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni — as to whether this live-action Rebels series is going to be live action or animation…  it sounds like the way that the conversation has gone is swaying towards that Rebels sequel being in live-action and that specifically being the Ahsoka series. That being said, this is not the end for Ahsoka for animation… From what we have heard — as far as [how] the conversation has gone is that Jon has successfully convinced Filoni to tell the next chapter of Ahsoka’s journey specifically in a tie-in with Rebels in live action."

At the beginning of the quote, they mentioned a possible live-action Rebels show. Before Star Wars announced its official lineup of new TV series, a live-action Rebels was one of the rumored shows fans thought would be happening. Though, according to the podcast, they claim that Rebels was getting ready to have an animated sequel, saying that Ezra Bridger voice actor Taylor Gray had already recorded lines for it. But after seeing the success of The Mandalorian, it was supposedly Jon Favreau who convinced Filoni to take the live-action route… thus turning the Rebels sequel into the Ahsoka series.

Of course, these are all just rumors for now, and we don’t know for sure what Favreau and Filoni have planned, especially for the Ahsoka series. But with Ahsoka name-dropping Thrawn in The Mandalorian, it absolutely feels like that’s the next logical step in the continuation of her story. Some have even begun fan-casting a live-action Thrawn (some have argued recently for Robert Downey Jr. to play him). And Kessel Run even reports that we’ll get a live-action Sabine Wren featured in the series as well.

At the end of the day, we’re sure most fans just want to know what happened to Ezra Bridger. That story has yet to be told. And whether it’s through live-action or animation, it’s definitely a gap in the Star Wars canon that we can’t wait to be filled.
