The Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney officially has an opening date: Feb. 19.
Disney Parks first announced back in January that the Trading Post would move to a new location near the west end of Downtown Disney in California. In the spot where the old Rainforest Cafe use to be, Disney said the Star Wars Trading Post theme is “inspired by a hidden jungle Resistance base, and it even includes Rey’s iconic speeder prominently displayed at the entrance.”
Like the Trading Posts at Disney Springs in Florida, the Downtown Disney shop is a must-visit destination for Star Wars fans. The shop has an assortment of galactic goods like robes, lightsabers and other Jedi accessories to space creatures, collectibles and exclusive merchandise from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The shop also has plenty of classic Star Wars and The Mandalorian merchandise, toys and even droids.
One of the newest Star Wars offerings available at the Trading Post include the Paddy Frog light-up sipper, which is available at Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida at Ronto Roasters and Docking Bay 7. The sipper is designed to look just like Jabba the Hutt’s aquarium, in which he keeps Klatooine paddy frogs seen in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Disney said the Trading Post also has items from the new Child-inspired streetwear collection featuring cute Baby Yoda/Grogu designs on shirts, leggings and more. The Trading Post also offers a stylish way to spend “credits” with the Batuuan Spira themed gift card. The gift card is $4.99 and has a minimum activation of $100. The “credits” can be used at select locations around Disneyland Resort.
When it comes to collectibles, the Trading Post is the best way to get your hands on Legacy Lightsabers of your favorite Star Wars characters. The newest lightsaber added at the Trading Posts and Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities in Galaxy’s Edge is Cal Kestis’ from the Jedi: Fallen Order video game.
Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure theme parks have been closed for nearly a year because of the ongoing pandemic. The Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment district started a phased reopening in July 2020 and in November 2020 expanded to include Buena Vista Street.
Disneyland’s annual pass program also ended last month with the resort promising to create new passholder programs in the future. Those who had active Disneyland passes as of March 14, 2020, are now called Legacy Passholders and are still able to get access to special discounts and other extras.
One of those extras includes the opportunity for a preview of the new Star Wars Trading Post from Feb. 16-18. Disneyland said reservations are now available for the Legacy Passholder preview, and passholders can bring one guest with them.
