Gina Carano will not be returning The Mandalorian or any future Star Wars projects for that matter. In wake of The Mandalorian actress’s controversial comments and social media posts, Lucasfilm has released an official statement announcing Carano is no longer employed by the company.

In a statement released by the company on Feb. 10, Lucasfilm made it clear that Carano will not be involved in future seasons of the show as a direct result of her recent social media activity which the company called “abhorrent” and “unacceptable.”

"“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”"

On Feb. 10, Carano began trending on social media alongside the hashtag #FireGinaCarano after posting an item to her Instagram which compared the divided political climate of today to Nazi Germany.

Although the post has since been deleted, fans were quick to screenshot the controversial post which was shared across social media alongside fan pleads for Lucasfilm to take action.

With Gina Carano out, will The Mandalorian recast the role of Cara Dune?

As made clear by Lucasfilm’s official statement, Gina Carano will not be returning for the previously announced third season of The Mandalorian. This decision has, of course, raised questions as to what this will mean for the future of her character Cara Dune who has played a key role in the show across its first two seasons.

At this time, it is not yet known whether the role of Cara Dune will be recast for season 3. Considering Lucasfilm only just severed ties with Carano, we’re not expecting any official announcement regarding the future of the character will be made until the creative team has the chance to further evaluate the situation and determine the best course of action.

Given production on season 3 is expected to begin until April, it seems unlikely the show will attempt to recast the role. Instead, it seems more likely the writers will simply write the character out of any planned storylines.

In the final moments of the season 2 finale, Cara’s future was left up in the air as the show capped off its season with a cameo from a legendary character who showed up to take Grogu (Baby Yoda) away to train him in the Force leaving fans with many questions about what would be next for the show’s central characters.

Considering there was no major cliffhanger connected to Cara’s character directly, it’s possible the writers might write the character off in a way that would explain her absence on-screen without writing the character off entirely. This could then allow the show to recast the role and bring Cara back into the fold at a later time when the story dictated.

It’s also possible the show might choose to instead introduce a new character to fill the void in looking to put further distance between the show and Carano.

Of course, this is all speculation at the time as no official decision has been made, so be sure to check back for additional updates.
