Star Wars: Characters who could appear in Rangers of the New Republic
Grand Admiral Thrawn
While we’ve spent a lot of time talking about members of the Republic who could appear in the series, there are many members of the Empire who could pop up as well, one of which is the fan-favorite character, Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Originally a character from the now non-canonical Star Wars Legends, Thrawn was brought back by Star Wars showrunner Dave Filoni in Star Wars Rebels and was recently name-dropped in the second season of The Mandalorian, teasing his inclusion in an upcoming live-action series.
Seeing as the character of Ashoka was searching for him when she appeared in The Mandalorian, he is likely to be included in her upcoming series, which will be released before Rangers of the New Republic.
With the shows all running concurrently and interconnecting, if Thrawn is meant to be an antagonist in Ashoka’s series, he is also a likely candidate to appear in Rangers of the New Republic as well.
Showrunner Jon Favreau stated in the past that all the shows will lead up to a big culmination, and with Thrawn acting as one of the heads of the Imperial Remnant, there is a lot of potential for him to appear as an antagonist in this series as well.
He could either appear in a minor role, simply giving orders to the members of the Empire that the show’s protagonists come into contact with, or possibly in a much larger one, being their primary antagonist, leading up to a showdown in the first season’s climax.
Either way, if the showrunners hope to develop Thrawn into the next “big bad” the same way he was in Star Wars Legends, having him appear as the leader of the Empire in multiple shows would be a great way to do so.
