Back during the internet’s summer of 2020 obsession with the video game Animal Crossing, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story co-writer Gary Whitta launched an in-game YouTube series where he interviewed celebrities. During an interview with Brie Larson on the show, she realized his connection to the Star Wars film and revealed, “I auditioned for that. I didn’t get it.”

When Larson first launched her own YouTube channel last year, she also revealed that she auditioned for the role of Rey.

It’s hard to imagine a world where Larson didn’t become Carol Danvers in Marvel’s Captain Marvel, but if she had booked the role of Rey back in 2014, she would not have become the superhero we all know and love today. She even got to play with Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu lightsaber on the set of the film.

With the long list of upcoming Star Wars films and the potential for even more with the success of the New York Times best-selling Star Wars: The High Republic book series, there’s ample opportunity for Brie Larson to appear in a future Star Wars product. After all, she’s a huge Star Wars fan and there’s something satisfying about seeing fans of the franchise live out their childhood dreams.
