8. Mando and Grogu

Mando and Grogu are probably the most unlikely duo to show up in a Star Wars story. When we’re introduced to Mando, the Mandalorian bounty hunter known as Din Djarin, he’s a seemingly unaffected character committed to getting the job done so that he can move on to the next job. That is, until a job leads him to discover a young child who comes from the same species as Yoda.

The Child, whose name is later revealed to be Grogu, breaks through Mando’s metaphorical armor, and instead of letting Grogu go to whatever Imperial experiment awaits him, Mando rescues him and takes off across the galaxy with Grogu in tow. Mando is driven by a need to protect Grogu from those who are hunting him, and their relationship sweetly evolves into a father-son relationship. This is made clear in season 2 when Moff Gideon captures Grogu, and Mando vows to get him back. Mando and Grogu’s adventures would have continued had Luke Skywalker not shown up to take Grogu to learn to be a Jedi.
