4. Han Solo and Leia Organa

I love you. I know. It’s an iconic exchange of lines by an iconic Star Wars couple. Han Solo and Leia Organa seemingly couldn’t stand each other the first time they met. Ideologically, they couldn’t have been more different. Han Solo was a smuggler looking out only for himself, and Leia was a Rebel leader interested in restoring peace to the entire galaxy. Han would have been content with helping rescue Leia, collect the money he needed to pay back Jabba the Hutt, and return to his life of smuggling if it weren’t for the pull he felt toward Leia. She was a princess, but there was something real about her. She was marked with a strength forged by watching the endless suffering of people throughout the galaxy because of the Empire. She had a purpose, a drive, and Han was a lost soul without a dream beyond surviving until the next job.

Together, Han and Leia became an unlikely force to be reckoned with. Han discovered how much he cared about the state of the galaxy because of how much he cared about Leia. Even years later, after the First Order had destroyed most of what they’d worked so hard to achieve, including turning their son Ben Solo to the dark side, and even though those things put incredible strain on their relationship, in the end, Han and Leia found strength in each other. And in a beautifully poetic way, they were able to bring their son back from the dark side and help restore peace to the galaxy through him.
