2. Luke Skywalker and R2-D2

When we first meet Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, he’s a wide-eyed farmboy with a dream of leaving Tatooine that has very little chance of happening. And then a short little blue and white astromech droid shows up with a special message from a princess for a man named Obi-Wan Kenobi. “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” The hologram message R2-D2 reveals to Luke Skywalker changes his life forever. From discovering that the old hermit Old Ben Kenobi was actually a Jedi named Obi-Wan Kenobi to finding out that his father, who was once a powerful Jedi Knight, became Darth Vader to become a Jedi himself, Luke’s journey is a wild ride, and R2-D2 is there with him all the way.

When Luke hops into an X-Wing fighter, R2-D2 is the droid that helps him navigate. When he travels to Dagobah to train under Yoda, R2-D2 is there with him. When Luke’s Jedi temple is destroyed, R2-D2 is there. When it comes to Star Wars duos, Luke and Artoo are an inseparable team in service of the greater good of the galaxy.
