19. Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros

Doctor Aphra may be unfamiliar to Star Wars fans who haven’t been reading the various Star Wars comics that have been published by Marvel in the years since Disney bought Lucasfilm. Doctor Aphra is a rogue archaeologist who gets caught up working for Darth Vader until Darth Vader tries to kill her. Aphra is infinitely clever and resourceful, however, and manages to survive.

Sana Starros was also introduced in Star Wars comics as a woman who once pretended to be Han Solo’s wife. The truth, though, is that Aphra and Sana have a complicated history, one of love shared and love strained and love almost recaptured again. The two are swindlers, traveling the galaxy to find the next relic that will bring them more credits and more adventure at every turn. Doctor Aphra is fun and self-effacing, and Sana is the perfect foil as brainy and serious. Their story is ongoing, but it’s a fun interaction to watch.
