17. Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story introduced us to Jyn Erso, the daughter of Imperial scientist Galen Erso, who was responsible for the design flaw in the Death Star, and Cassian Andor, a dedicated member of the Rebel Alliance. Because Galen was believed to be a dedicated member of the Empire, and therefore an enemy of the Rebel Alliance, when Cassian finds Jyn, he’s naturally suspicious of her loyalty.

Their relationship is built on mutual suspicion as they seek to find Jyn’s father. The mutual suspicion evolves as the two get to know each other better, including their shared motivations to do what is right to free the galaxy from the iron grip of the Empire. Jyn gives an impassioned speech in favor of stealing the Death Star plans, a speech that convinces Cassian to join her.

We’re hopeful to see more of Cassian Andor when his show, Andor comes out on Disney+. Even though it’s not said to feature Jyn Erso in the series (this happens before Rogue One, of course), we’re excited to see what happens nonetheless — and we’ll get to see just how good of a spy he was prior to meeting Jyn and completing the mission of a lifetime.
