How did Darth Maul die?
A warrior of seemingly unsurpassable skill, the Dathomirian Zabrak who would become known as Maul was not originally born such a creature. He rose to great power as a crime lord, and even seized Mandalore, after his first apparent death at the hands of Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maul met his ultimate demise in battle against Obi-Wan in the sands of Tatooine.
Maul was forged by the magic of Force-sensitive witches, the ancient Nightsisters of Dathomir. Thus was this ultimate weapon apprenticed to Darth Sidious and led on the path of the Sith. Taking on the mantle of Darth Maul, he served his master through multiple campaigns before encountering Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan on Tatooine and later Naboo in the Phantom Menace.
It was on Naboo that Darth Maul would slay the Jedi Master before himself being cut in half by Padawan Kenobi, the pieces flailing as they fell down a shaft into apparent oblivion. His end was not to come, and through the teachings of Darth Sidious and sheer force of will, he managed to survive. His mind was lost and he spent much of the Clone Wars as a scavenger on the junk planet of Lotho Minor, devolving into a bestial version of himself.
Rescued by another creation of Mother Talzin, leader of the Nightsisters, he would recover his mind and be reforged by the witches. Ever his thoughts dwelled on Obi-Wan, however, and he engineered his own siege of Mandalore and seized Obi-Wan’s dearest friend, the Dutchess Satine Kryze. Maul ended her life before his foe’s very eyes.
As the Empire rose to power and his former master’s plans came to fruition, Darth Maul crossed paths with Ezra Bridger, who would give him the chance he needed to find the one who disfigured him and forever altered his dark destiny. Meeting once more as they had so many years ago on the planet Tatooine, Obi-Wan killed Darth Maul with a single lightsaber exchange and ended their decades-long feud.
