10. I Am Mother
If you enjoy the mystery and future technology aspects of Star Wars, I Am Mother is for you. The movie stars Clara Rugaard, Luke Hawker, Rose Byrne, and Hilary Swank. After an extinction event, someone made a high-tech bunker designed to repopulate planet Earth, complete with robots to care for the future first citizens of Earth. An A.I. robot named Mother cares for an embryo who viewers see age into a child and teenager. Mother explains to “Daughter” that she wants to practice being the perfect parents before implanting the other embryos in their robotic chambers.
Although Mother claims that the outside world is inhabitable and that she is the last human on Earth, Daughter is still curious and wants to explore the outside world, a place she has never been. Daughter and Mother are locked in the bunker with all of the necessary requirements to care for a herd of humans and the parts and technology for Mother.
Even though Mother said nobody was left on Earth, a woman (Hilary Swank) is seen at their front door, wounded. Daughter lets her in and is extremely concerned and confused at how she could survive in the outside world. At first, she hides the woman from Mother. Shortly after her hiding attempt, Mother discovers the woman who claims that robots like Mother hunt and kill survivors. Mother agrees to help treat the woman’s wounds but things only get more tricky from there. This film features none of the twists and turns that you’d expect.
