16. The Dragons

This one is really tough since all dragons are good dragons. But we have to say Star Wars’ dragons are superior because they aren’t the typical medieval fantasy-type dragons. They’re space dragons.

Dragons also aren’t central characters in Star Wars, but it’s awesome every time one appears on screen or in a piece of literature. The most notable dragon in Star Wars is the Krayt dragon, which first appeared in skeleton form in A New Hope. Then, a Krayt dragon finally gets some epic screen time in The Mandalorian Season 2 episode “The Marshal.”

These massive scaled beasts are found on Tatooine and are an important element of the desert planet’s cultures. That’s especially true for the Tusken Raiders, who held initiation rites that involved hunting a Krayt dragon. Some of the largest Krayt dragons were known to make dens in old Sarlacc pits — are the dragon ate the Sarlacc.

Did you know there are also rancor-dragons in Star Wars? These creatures are mutated rancors with wings, which were created through alchemy. Rancor-dragons appeared in the Dark Horse comic series Dawn of the Jedi: Force Storm and Dawn of the Jedi: Force War.

Daenerys Targaryen’s three dragons in Game of Thrones are fierce and fire-breathing, but the space dragons of Star Wars are just plain cool.
