25 ways Star Wars is better than Game of Thrones
25. Baby Yoda
Name one cute thing from Game of Thrones.
Okay, the just-hatched dragons and Dire wolf puppies are pretty cute, but none of them are as cute as Grogu/The Child/Baby Yoda.
Star Wars has always had at least one cute thing in each film and TV show. In the original trilogy, there were the Ewoks and, arguably, Jawas. For the prequel films, one could make a case for the cuteness of Varactyls, especially with Obi-Wan Kenobi riding one. And the sequel films and spinoff TV shows have the cutest things of all — from porgs and BB-8 to Fathiers and Babu Frik.
But the cutest character in all of Star Wars is Grogu, also known as The Child and Baby Yoda.
Introduced in the first season of The Mandalorian, the 50-year-old big-eared, green baby Jedi quickly became the most sought-after character in both the fictional show and in the real world. For months, fans were desperate for anything with “Baby Yoda” on it, but it wasn’t until more than halfway through the second season that we learned his actual name: Grogu. And it wasn’t until months after the conclusion of season 1 that we got The Child merchandise from Disney. Now, fans can even get a life-sized, animatronic Grogu that wobbles around and makes the most adorable noises in the galaxy.
And just when we thought Grogu could not get any cuter, his relationship with Mandalorian bounty hunter turned adopted dad Din Djarin was what got many Star Wars fans through each week waiting for a new episode to drop. The Season 2 finale scene of Din taking off his helmet so Grogu could finally see his face before he’s whisked away to Jedi school was one of the most heart-twisting scenes in all of Star Wars.
Sorry, Game of Thrones — Din Djarin tearfully saying goodbye to Grogu > Arya tearfully yelling at Dire wolf Nymeria to run away so she isn’t killed, all day every day.
