The Mandalorian earns several MTV Movie and TV Awards nominations
By Mia Johnson
The MTV Movie and TV Awards skipped last year’s show due to COVID-19. And this year, it looks like they’ll be able to pull off an awards show, as evident by the list of nominations that just came out today.
For Star Wars fans, you’ll be happy to find that The Mandalorian did happen to receive several nominations. Of course, at the end of 2020, Disney+ premiered season 2 of the series. It was filled with so many stunning and jaw-dropping moments that truly make it worthy of any nomination it gets. So, just what is the series nominated for this year at the MTV Movie and TV Awards?
There are three awards that The Mandalorian is up for. First, Pedro Pascal (as Din Djarin) is up for the Best Hero Award. Next, Giancarlo Esposito (as Moff Gideon) is up for Best Villain. And, finally, Din Djarin and Grogu are nominated for Best Duo.
Honestly, while we’d love for them to sweep in every category, we’d especially want them to win the last one — if only to see Baby Yoda accept an award.
When it comes to this awards show, MTV mixes television and movie nominations in each category. (I.e., there are no separate categories for both movies and TV shows.) And thus, there’s some stiff competition this year.
Pascal, for example, is up against Wonder Woman 1984 co-star Gal Gadot in the hero category. And Esposito may have a hard time fending off WandaVision fan-favorite villain Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn). We’d still like to think there’s no competition in the Best Duo category, but competitors Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier surely make for some stiff competition.
MTV Movie and TV Awards 2021 voting
The good news is that fans have the ability to vote for their favorites — up to 20 times, even. And voting is open now on MTV.com through April 30. Then, you can catch all the winners when the awards show airs on Sunday, May 16 at 9 p.m. ET.
