This is the second poster to be released in the series drawn by artist Drew Struzan for the prequel trilogy. The focus of this poster, much like the movie, is on the relationship between Anakin and Padme. As Episode II was viewed as the most romance-heavy of the prequel trilogy, similar to how the relationship between Han and Leia really grew in the middle chapter of the original trilogy, a heavy portion of the advertising for this movie focused on the characters forbidden love.

An earlier draft of the poster featured Count Dooku, but he was removed to have the artwork focus more on the movie’s romance. Reportedly, Lucas wanted the poster to show the two characters coming together as the galaxy explodes around them.

Struzan clearly achieved the “explosion” look with the signature lens flares that would appear in all three of his prequel posters. Of course, the other bit of imagery that leaps from the page is the full-body shot of Jango Fett decked out in his Mandalorian armor. While the expanded universe had given us plenty of Boba Fett stories by that point, his presence on the big screen was still one that was very much shrouded in mystery. The visual of someone who appeared to have unmistakable ties to the fan-favorite character was something else that was constantly present in the buildup to Episode II.
