Today is May 4, Star Wars Day! To celebrate, the Walt Disney Company has given Star Wars fans a closer look at one of their upcoming projects: their future themed resort, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
The Disney Parks shared an exclusive blog revealing a number of immersive experiences that will be available to resort-goers once the hotel opens. “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser…will take you to a galaxy far, far away for an all-immersive, two-night vacation experience that goes beyond anything Disney has ever created before,” the blog said.
The post was accompanied by a clip of the park’s Rey actress wielding a new lightsaber, with a blade that appears to project completely from the hilt. This is likely the closest thing to a ‘real’ lightsaber that has ever been created.

According to the park, this new lightsaber has been created by Disney’s Imagineering Research and Development team. This is just the beginning of the immersive experience that resort-goers will encounter when they step foot into the Galactic Starcruiser:
"From the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions- or even the casual conversations you may have- determine how your personal journey unfolds."
Some of the other detailed immersive adventures that will be available at the resort include venturing through a special “Launch Pod” where guests will be sent through a hyperspace adventure to enter the hotel itself.
Features in the hotel include a variety of Star Wars characters, creatures and aliens for guests to interact and talk with. Those staying at the hotel can dine in the specialized Crown of Corellia dining room and be serenaded by a Twi’lek singer. Beyond these features, a number of artistic mock-ups of various areas of the resort were also posted on the blog.
Additional adventures within the Galactic Starcruiser include a lightsaber exhibit where guests can train with what appears to be the same saber from the promotional video. There will also reportedly be tie-ins to the planet Batuu and the rest of the Galaxy’s Edge theme park.
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be located at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and is scheduled to open sometime in 2022. Tickets to the resort are not yet available, but more information can be found on the resort’s webpage.
