10. Kelly Marie Tran

First appearing in The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran made waves as the charming, sweet, optimistic, and persevering mechanic Rose Tico. Before being cast, Tran worked steadily in television and studied improv.

Rose Tico should have been a life-changing role in a good way for Tran, who by all accounts never took a moment on the set for granted, but like Boyega, Tran faced backlash over her casting to the extent that she was bullied off of social media to protect her own mental health.

Since her Star Wars debut, Tran starred alongside Elizabeth Olsen in the Facebook Watch series Sorry For Your Loss. She also returned as Rose Tico for The Rise of Skywalker in a much more limited role.

However, Tran seems to be developing a strong career as a voice actress while her on-screen career simmers. In addition to voicing Rose Tico in multiple animated projects, she’s worked on The Croods: A New Age and most recently (and to positive reviews) Raya and the Last Dragon, reuniting her with Disney, hopefully not for the last time.

After such a devastating entry into Hollywood, it’s clear that a talented and warm person like Tran will take her time with her work to protect herself, which can only mean that more good things are to come.
