Ewan McGregor teases he filmed a scene with someone ‘special’ for the Obi-Wan series

Last week was May the Fourth, also known as Star Wars Day. And while many of us spent the day re-watching the films and shows or sharing our favorite Star Wars memes, Ewan McGregor probably had the best Star Wars Day of them all: he spent it filming his new Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night to promote his upcoming Netflix series, Halston. But of course, Kimmel also had to ask the actor about his updates on filming Star Wars, and McGregor had plenty to share.
At one point, Kimmel asked the actor if he did anything special for Star Wars Day on set, and McGregor had quite the interesting answer.
“I got to play a very special scene on May the Fourth with someone very special in my life,” McGregor responded. “And that’s all I can tell you about it.”
Now, we’re going to have to play a game of Guess Who — because of course, McGregor would keep his response incredibly vague. Kimmel did follow up with a few questions to help narrow it down. And according to his answers, it’s not someone he’s been on camera with before and the person is not related to him at all. At least, “not necessarily,” as McGregor mentioned.
On Star Wars News Net, they’ve guessed that the special someone could be his girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Though she technically appeared in Birds of Prey as The Huntress — so it’d take a screen detective to go back and analyze if she appeared in any scenes alongside McGregor’s character, Roman Sionis.
We also know this would rule out him filming a May the Fourth scene with Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, as they’ve certainly shared plenty of on-screen time together. Though, in the interview, the actor didn’t say much about that either, as he wasn’t even aware that Christensen’s casting had been officially announced by Lucasfilm.
Obi-Wan Kenobi series new look
Finally, the last bit of interesting information that he revealed was all about his costume. He shared, “The costume’s probably slightly different, you know, then you might expect.” Which, that seems quite interesting considering Kenobi in many iterations has simply donned his an off-white robe and perhaps a cloak and called it a day.
The premiere of Star Wars Rebels probably offered us our best look at what a late-middle-aged Obi-Wan could look like. But even then, his outfitting was the same old, same old. So we’ll definitely be interested to see how they switch things up in the Obi-Wan series.
Overall, McGregor had nothing but great things to say about production thus far. And we’re excited to see what’ll become of the series when it lands on Disney+ in 2022.
