Star Wars Celebration is always one of the franchise’s most highly anticipated events. Now, Lucasfilm has announced that fans will get to experience the next Celebration even earlier than anticipated.
StarWars.com announced in a press release that the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Anaheim will now be held from May 26 to May 29, 2022, nearly three months earlier than the originally scheduled dates of Aug. 18 to 21, 2022. This will give fans an opportunity to check out the convention’s offerings at the beginning of the summer.
The decision, Lucasfilm said, was made in conjunction with the various hotel and venue teams that help to put on Celebration, while also keeping everyone’s safety in mind. There is also important information surrounding ticketing information now that the dates for the event have changed.
For those who have already purchased a ticket to Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, the tickets will automatically transfer over from the August dates to the May dates. For those who are unable to attend the event, ticket refund requests can be made on the Celebration website. Lucasfilm also noted that the refund period will close by June 11 of this year, so all refund requests should be made by then.
Star Wars Celebration is Lucasfilm’s official Star Wars convention and has taken place on a rotating basis since 1999. The previous event was Celebration Chicago in 2019, where the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was revealed, as well as a 20th-anniversary tribute for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
While the next Anaheim convention was slated to be held in 2020, it was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and StarWars.com announced in June of last year that the event would be held in 2022.
Star Wars Celebration 2022 marks a return of the event to California for the third time. Celebration IV was held in Los Angeles in 2007. The first Celebration Anaheim was held in 2015, and marked the official reveal of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
With very little information on the future Star Wars movies being known at this time, perhaps we will learn more about them next year, as well as more information on the wide variety of Star Wars television shows that will be released on Disney+. It’s hard to say for sure what will be promoted, but fans will surely not want to miss out on the excitement!
