For decades, Star Wars books picked up where the movies and television shows left off, fleshing out stories and characters along the way. While publishers and authors have also done an amazing job expanding the galaxy with new and original characters in recent years, it’s time they revisit more previously introduced characters and flesh out their stories.

Here are eight characters from the Star Wars animated shows we’d love to learn more about through their own novels.

Imanuel and Venisa Doza

Star Wars needs more healthy romantic relationships, so when Imanuel and Venisa Doza showed up in Star Wars Resistance, it felt like a breath of fresh air. Not only do these two characters love each other, but they support each other no matter what, even when their interests clash. What makes them even more fascinating is how they were originally on opposite sides of the Galactic Civil War.

Imanuel was an Imperial officer, and Venisa was a pilot for the Rebel Alliance. How did they meet and fall in love? The start of their relationship and their journey to becoming parents while the First Order takes root in the Unknown Regions would make an intriguing story.

Ursa and Alrich Wren

Another pair of characters who deserve their own spotlight is Ursa and Alrich Wren. As the leader of Clan Wren, Ursa is best known for her sharp and hardened nature. Alrich, on the other hand, has a softer and gentler touch. How did they end up together?

We know Alrich chose to adopt the Wren surname, but outside of that, we don’t know much about Mandalorian culture. Was it an arranged marriage? Or was it love at first sight? Their origin story and how they fell in love could canonize parts of Mandalorian culture from Legends or shed light on new traditions and practices.

Sabine Wren

Sabine made her debut in Star Wars Rebels as the sole Mandalorian member of the Ghost crew. We discovered nuggets of details about her past, like how she spent her early years in an Imperial Academy and survived as a bounty hunter alongside Ketsu Onyo. A novel could flesh out those details and give us a closer look into her thoughts about Mandalore, the Empire, and her life as a bounty hunter.

A Sabine-centered book could also explore her time on Lothal after Ezra Bridger disappears at the end of the series. More importantly, it could give us insight into Mandalore’s status during the original trilogy timeline. Regardless, she deserves to be the main character in her own story.

Mika Grey

One of the most interesting Star Wars Resistance characters is Mika Grey, a relic hunter who makes it her life’s purpose to hunt down Sith objects and keep them out of the hands of the First Order. While she’s not Force-sensitive, she has some knowledge of the Force: “The Force doesn’t belong to any one person. It is something that is inside all of us. We just find it in different ways.”

What motivated her to pursue the life of an archaeologist and treasure hunter? Mika’s story can unlock a lot of secrets pertaining to Darth Sidious, and what better way to explore that than in a book?

Fenn Rau

What does it take to be a Mandalorian Protector? The best warriors are selected to protect the Mandalorian throne, but what does this process look like? When it comes to Fenn Rau‘s role as a Protector, we’ve barely scratched the surface. His story has so much potential, especially since it goes back as far as the Clone Wars era.

A novel about his past and his future after Star Wars Rebels could help us learn more about Mandalorian society, the rigorous process in becoming a Mandalorian Protector, and how he and Gar Saxon became sworn enemies.

Tarre Vizsla

Known as the first Mandalorian Jedi, Tarre Vizsla created the Darksaber and eventually became a ruler on Mandalore. We don’t know much else about him, which makes him the perfect character to explore further in a novel.

How did his Force abilities manifest? Given the animosity between Jedi and Mandalorians, what did his family think about their Force-sensitive son? How did he create the Darksaber? There are so many parts of his life to explore and even more Star Wars fans who would gladly consume that kind of content.
