Star Wars characters who should get a spin-off series: Wedge Antilles

Arguably the greatest side character in Star Wars, Wedge Antilles was one of the Rebellion’s best pilots during the original trilogy, and he could easily be an option to return to helm his own series.

Portrayed by Dennis Lawson in the original trilogy, Antilles was involved in some of the most space pivotal battles of the Rebellion, having piloted an X-Wing during the attack on the first Death Star.

Wedge would also pilot a snow speeder during the Battle of Hoth, and would go on to lead Rogue Squadron on an attack of the Death Star II during the Battle of Endor, going as far as flying into the Death Star to help destroy its core reactor.

Dennis Lawson reprised his role as Wedge in a cameo during The Rise of Skywalker, manning a gun turret on the Millennium Falcon during the battle of Exegol. Wedge is also featured in several episodes of the Rebels animated series.

Given that he is very prominently featured in the movies and is one of the top pilots in the galaxy, Wedge would be a great choice for a live-action show, albite, with a new younger actor portraying the fighter pilot.

A Wedge-based series could easily be set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, set during The Mandalorian time period, focusing on him training a new squadron of fighters to keep the galaxy safe.

While the Rangers of the New Republic series is no longer in active development, his character would be perfect to be brought in to lead it if Lucasfilm decides to revisit it in the future.
