Jon Favreau, Anthony Mackie appear at Avengers Campus opening ceremony

Disneyland celebrated the opening of its newest land, Avengers Campus, on Wednesday night, and it was a star-studded event.
Much like the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the park pulled out all the stops to mark the grand occasion for the new Disneyland park — and that included an appearance from a big name in both the Star Wars and Marvel universes: Jon Favreau. Over on the Star Wars side, Favreau is most known for being the creator of the fan-favorite series The Mandalorian and voicing the character Rio Durant in Solo: A Star Wars Story. But he’s also quite prominent in the MCU, as he was the director of the very first Iron Man film and has played the character Happy Hogan since the 2008 movie.
Favreau, as the director of the first MCU film, was there to introduce one of the characters that guests can see around the park: the Mark 80 Iron Man. But of course, that isn’t the only character guests will see at the park. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie also appeared at the opening ceremony, as he revealed that the Sam Wilson version of Captain America will also be a new character at Avengers Campus.
Also joining the two stars that night were Paul Rudd and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, as well as Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro.
Much like Galaxy’s Edge, Avengers Campus will feature an immersive experience for parkgoers to feel like they’re in the movies. And this will include experiences that range from rides themed after characters like Spider-Man to an eatery that’s based on food “experiments” by Ant-Man’s Hank Pym. Though, Galaxy’s Edge will be over in the original Disneyland park while Avengers Campus will be on the California Adventure side of the park. So keep that in mind if you want to see both theme park lands.
Avengers Campus will officially open on Friday, June 4. And hopefully, it will open to positive reviews (and the opening crowds won’t flop as bad as they did with Galaxy’s Edge). Plus, be sure to keep an eye out on Disneyland’s COVID procedures and info for out-of-state guests if you’re planning on taking a trip to Anaheim to check out the new land.
