14. The Thing

Continuing the theme of wildly strong, visually appalling characters with a heart of gold is The Thing. Ben Grimm fits the definition of a cursed hero, a space voyager who like the other members of the Fantastic Four suffered a cosmic blast and gained superpowers as a result of it, only his are more visible than most.

Despite the rough exterior, Grimm’s most notable attribute besides strength is his attitude. Grimm had to overcome the initial frustrations with his condition, and the potential outbursts of rage that come with it but maintains the loving character that lies beneath. The combination of the two also makes The Thing an unstoppable force, fighting to defeat any opponent no matter how many tries it takes. And the added durability of that rocky exterior likely comes in handy when taking blaster fire.

Due to his background, Grimm also possesses one skill that hasn’t been mentioned yet: flight. Grimm is a skilled pilot and most Jedi tend to be the same with interceptors of their own. Therefore, whether on the battlefield or in the skies, The Thing would be a valuable tool in combat and brings a level of compassion to the table that the Jedi far too often lack.
