11. Iron Man

Originally a hotheaded, overconfident millionaire, Tony Stark evolves from focusing on personal desires to leading the fight to save the universe. Iron Man’s final act, sacrificing his own life for it, concludes one of the most fulfilling character arcs in all of the MCU.

Even with his incredible financial success and technical genius, Stark pushed that aside to work with S.H.I.E.L.D and eventually help establish the Avengers, fighting off the massive threat Loki posed. Then, he did the same against Ultron, his own creation. The threat of that became a turning point for Stark, one where he decided to support the Sokavia Accords and aim to put superheroes in their place, learning his parents’ fate in the process.

All of those challenges, specifically Stark’s role in putting the world at risk, could have wretched him apart. Instead, Stark shifted his focus to training a new generation of superheroes starting with Spider-Man and eventually inspiring his own daughter, Morgan. Of course, Stark led the fight against Thanos and made the remarkable sacrifice that the younger version of himself never would have approached. But is the type of sacrifice that Jedi masters have to make.

Therefore, Iron Man will come to be remembered not for his arrogance or shortcomings, but for that sacrifice alone, one that makes him one of the world’s greatest superheroes. He would likely be an equally iconic Jedi master. And there were some murmurs once about Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the Star Wars world. Maybe it could work the other way around too?
