9. Shang-Chi
Continuing the conversation around combat, Shangi-Chi sits right in line with Iron Fist. Both were trained in the art of martial arts from a very young age, possess the ability to harness their spiritual energy known as “chi” and overcome difficult pasts to use their powers for good.
In Shang-Chi’s case, that meant uprooting what he thought about his father, Fu Manchu, and walking away from a life of heroism only to be repeatedly roped back into it. Across those stories, Shang-Chi displayed an ability to overpower iconic superheroes and even train padawans like Spider-Man and Captain America in martial arts, despite lacking any natural superpowers himself.
Shang-Chi does, however, have the ability to contain his chi and even sense others in a way not too dissimilar from the Force. And on a gift from Tony Stark, he once utilized a device to block and catch bullets, which sounds a lot like Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber work against a training bot.
Shang-Chi has numerous comic book storylines that have become muddled over the years, but his continued dedication to teaching and protecting others in the spirit of a Jedi master remains.
