19. Heimdall

Continuing the theme of loyalty and selflessness, Heimdall fits right into that category. As the guard of the Bifrost Bridge who could tap into all of the Nine Realms, Heimdall was one of Asgard’s most important fighters, prepared to do whatever it took to protect his people.

Like others on this list, that did not prevent Heimdall from stretching the boundaries a bit. Granted, that did come with a cost, as his decisions to conspire with Thor against Odin’s command in an act of treason ultimately led to him losing his position, but it was a necessary sacrifice to protect Jane Foster and Asgard.

Even after being outlawed from Asgard, Heimdall continued to fight in support of it. He returned to delay Hela’s plans, protect the Asgardians and ultimately led Thor out of imprisonment to defeat his sister. Even on his last breath, Heimdall ignited the Bifrost to send Hulk to New York and warn of Thanos’ arrival, sacrificing his own life for the fate of the universe.

Heimdall may test the rules a bit too much for some Jedi’s comfort, but he always put others before himself, not to mention being a highly skilled and sensitive combatant as well. All of that makes him a great Jedi master.
