What’s next for Mark Hamill in Star Wars?
By Mia Johnson
Mark Hamill has been a part of the Star Wars family since the very beginning — first appearing in the original Star Wars in 1977, all the way down to the end of the Skywalker saga’s final movie, The Rise of Skywalker.
And while some veterans of long franchises often like to distance themselves from the movies after the project is over, Mark Hamill has been nothing but gleeful to continue to play his part in the Star Wars universe. Of course, that included reprising his role in the sequel films, but also appearing at conventions, meeting fans, and even interacting with them on Twitter — as he’s become a king on that part of social media.
Still, while we thought his role would have ended when Luke died in The Last Jedi, we were treated to seeing Luke in The Rise of Skywalker. And even when we thought that was the end, the actor made a surprise appearance as a younger version of himself in The Mandalorian. With no end in sight to Hamill’s devotion to Star Wars, that means we could expect to see more of him. But how so?

So far, neither Mark Hamill nor Disney have revealed that the actor will be returning for any other Star Wars projects.
Yet, they didn’t say anything about him appearing in The Mandalorian either, and we always know Disney is down to keep secrets about some of their biggest plot twists. That being said, the most obvious path for Mark Hamill to return as Luke Skywalker would be in The Mandalorian season 3.
The series left us hanging in the season 2 finale as Luke Skywalker took Grogu away to train him. And we don’t doubt we’ve seen the last of Grogu. So that could mean we should get to see him at the Jedi training academy with Luke.
Disney has a plethora of other Star Wars shows coming to Disney+ as well, all of which Hamill could fit into as Luke Skywalker. Though, seeing as Obi-Wan Kenobi is set during a time when Luke is just a boy, we probably won’t see him in that series. (Unless Disney decides to really digital de-age Hamill into his 10-year-old self… That’s a joke, Disney. Don’t do that.)
We’re also a long ways away from any Star Wars movies coming out. And since the Skywalker cinematic saga is definitely over, that doesn’t seem like a place where Hamill will pop up in as Luke Skywalker. But again, neither was The Mandalorian… and yet, here we are.
So, with the help of Disney+, the door is wide open for Mark Hamill to return in any capacity he likes. As a voice actor, he could even lend his voice to any of the characters that need voicing, whether it be in the animated or live-action form. There’s plenty for him to do, and we’ll likely see Luke again very soon.
