Baby Yoda vs. Alligator Loki: Which green cutie rules Disney+?

When the very first episode of The Mandalorian dropped, the world was introduced to the cutest little green alien we could ever lay eyes on: Baby Yoda. And for two years, we have been charmed by the tiny creature who loves blue cookies, creepily sneaking frog eggs to eat, and stealing the knob from his dad’s ship because it’s a shiny object.

And for those two years, not much could get in Baby Yoda/The Child/Grogu’s way. He was the hottest, cutest thing to hit Disney+ ever. And not even Porgs, Baby Moana, Olaf or any of the other cute things on Disney+ could hold a candle to him. That is, at least until now.

Enter: Alligator Loki. You’d have to be sleeping under a rock if you haven’t heard of this new green cutie to hit the scene. This gator who isn’t a hater showed up during the post-credits scene during Loki episode 4 on Disney+, and he was the star of the show when it came to the most recent episode that dropped this week, episode 5 “Journey into Mystery.”

Alligator Loki isn’t like the other Loki variants, though. He doesn’t talk much. He needs to be carried wherever he goes. And he, well, he’s an alligator. But what he does have in common with his fellow Loki variants is that he’s green, deadly, and also likes to wear a pointy crown on the top of his head. All of those traits combined have made him capture our hearts.

He even has not one but technically two Funko Pops! coming out, and that’s high recognition for any character — when Funko bestows the great honor of immortalizing them as a Pop!.

Who’s cuter: Alligator Loki or Baby Yoda?

And so, the toughest question of them all must be asked: Who is the cutest green icon to rule Disney+? Does Baby Yoda still have what it takes, or does this Loki variant get to be the king of Disney+?

Well, we have to say, Funko does some embellishing when it comes to Alligator Loki’s Funko Pop! While the precious large lizard wears an adorable smile on his face in Pop! form, he’s a bit more menacing in the series. For example, in episode 5 of Loki when the fight breaks out at the Loki hangout, Alligator Loki straight-up bites off President Loki’s hand without hesitation. (Welcome to the Skywalker Club, President Loki!) If I saw that thing come out of a swamp in Florida, I would probably run.

Meanwhile, Grogu may be deadly… but he’s also drop-dead adorable. He has those huge, puppy-dog eyes and an air of innocent curiosity. Oh, how helpless he is when his squid soup tries to attack him. Oh, how adorable he is when he runs back to Mando when papa makes the bad guys go away. And oh, how we would love to hold him the way grandpa George does in this adorable photo. We hope he never grows up!

There’s probably so much that can be said about Grogu — from the way he eats, the way he walks and (honestly) the way he produces so many great memeable moments. Grogu is here to stay, and we can’t wait to see him in The Mandalorian season 3. Meanwhile, Alligator Loki seems to be a one-and-done thing. A fun character? Yes. An icon? Absolutely. But unless Loki gets another season, don’t expect to see much more of him around.

And so, it’s only natural that Grogu comes out victorious in this debate! No one is quite as cute and adorable as him, and Disney can churn out so much more merch for him. Still, no hard feelings, Alligator Loki. I hope you don’t bite my hand off.
