There’s some new information out there that suggests when we could finally see The Mandalorian season 3 hit Disney+.
The series’ premiere date has largely remained a mystery this year because of the inclusion of the upcoming show The Book of Boba Fett, which is taking The Mandalorian’s typical end-of-the-year spot. Whereas The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 premiered in November and October respectively, The Book of Boba Fett is premiering this December — pushing back when we’ll see Mando return on screen again.
So, some new information has been found via the Star Wars Leaks subreddit, which suggests The Mandalorian won’t be going for its typical end-of-the-year spot — but could be coming much earlier.
The Mandalorian season 3 release date
This information really requires some deep-diving to find, but it’s there. On the site Edelweiss (a trade site for books/publishers), a planned young readers book called The Mandalorian: Boba Fett Returns (Star Wars) includes the potential release date in its key selling points for the book. The site accurately says: “The Book of Boba Fett premieres on Disney+ December 2021,” and then goes on to mention “Season 3 of The Mandalorian premiers on Disney+ spring 2022.”
While this information does come from a source that’s more reputable than most (the information was likely supplied by the book’s publisher, Random House Books), there’s still room to carry some healthy skepticism here.
For one, it’s very possible that The Mandalorian season 3 was eyeing a spring 2022 release at some point in time, but that was delayed. (COVID, as we know, ended up pushing many premiere dates back.) And so it’s possible that the information was never updated.
There’s also no sure consensus on the status of The Mandalorian filming. Some fans on the subreddit seem to think some Mandalorian season 3 filming could have taken place when Boba Fett was filming. But otherwise, some rumors have said that season 3 won’t start filming until September. A spring 2022 release date would be quite hard to swing, unless it comes out in the late spring, such as June.
Then there’s the question of the other series that are actually currently filming, including Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi. With both of those set to more than likely wrap ahead of The Mandalorian, they would be the more likely candidate to premiere during that time of year. But if there’s anything that’s for certain, Star Wars TV is going to have a packed schedule, and it’s going to be a full year (and then some) of Star Wars no matter what premieres next.
