In a recent reveal from the LEGO Star Wars brand on StarWars.com, the fan-favorite Republic Gunship will receive an updated LEGO model that will be the latest edition to the Ultimate Collector Series of highly detailed builds for die-hard fans.

Specifically, the build is that of the Republic LAAT (Low Altitude Assault Transport). The ship first appeared at the Battle of Geonosis in the climax of Attack of the Clones and went on to appear in The Clone Wars and a variety of video games, particularly ones in the LEGO Star Wars series.

The Republic Gunship set will cost about $350, will be a whopping 3,292 pieces, and is measured at 13 inches high, 29 inches wide, and 27 inches in length. It will feature minifigures of Mace Windu and a Clone Trooper Commander. The significance of this particular piece is that its existence is owed to a fan poll from the LEGO Ideas website, where it won out against two other potential ships by attaining 58 percent of the votes with over 30,000 cast in its favor.

There have been several buildable iterations of the Republic Gunship, from the vehicle’s first appearance in 2002 and onwards. This most recent model is by far the largest and most detailed.

The Ultimate Collector Series is designed specifically for sets such as this. They are often far more complicated and expensive than standard LEGO sets and are made with collectability and display purposes in mind more so than playability, as is suggested by the 18+ recommendation on the set’s box.

Great effort has gone to replicate these models in the style of their movie counterparts rather than being a child friendly composite that will fit into a small box.

The LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Republic Gunship will be made available on Aug. 1 later this year.
