The Mandalorian season 3 is not coming to Disney Plus in August 2021

It’s unanimous that The Mandalorian is one of the greatest creations to come out of Star Wars and Lucasfilm’s long history of movies and television shows. And, seriously, nothing quite measures up to just how good The Mandalorian has been in seasons 1 and 2.

Season 1 of the Disney+ show introduced us to the Mandalorian Din Djarin and his rescued bounty Grogu as he saved the little one from the clutches of evil. And season 2 pushed the narrative further as the quest to return Grogu to his people began, eventually leading to one of the most amazing finales ever: Luke Skywalker himself returned in the series to come to Grogu’s rescue as his new Jedi Master.

While the story ended there, with Grogu being taken in by Luke, it didn’t signal the end of The Mandalorian story altogether. As we know, a season 3 of The Mandalorian has been ordered. And with there still being some lingering questions after season 2 (such as “What will the Mandalorian do now that he’s the wielder of the Darksaber?”), fans naturally want to know when the next season of the series will arrive.

So, when can we expect The Mandalorian to return? Here’s what we know.

The Mandalorian season 3 release date

Firstly, we know that The Mandalorian season 3 won’t be heading to Disney+ in August of 2021. The streaming service revealed which series and movies would be heading to the platform in the month of August and, of course, The Mandalorian season 3 is not a part of that lineup.

As we know it, production for The Mandalorian season 3 is still in the early stages. And it’s not half as far along in filming as some of the other series like Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Though, those won’t be the next series to come out.

In December, The Book of Boba Fett will be the next live-action Star Wars series to come out on Disney+. So, if you’re missing The Mandalorian, you can at least count on The Book of Boba Fett to fill the void since this will be a spinoff series. We won’t likely see The Mandalorian until sometime in 2022. It could be early in the year or it could be later in the year. But there is no definitive release date so far.
