The Bad Batch’s fate confirmed: Is The Bad Batch season 2 happening?

With season 1 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch nearing its conclusion, all eyes have been on Disney Plus with fans anxious to know whether The Bad Batch season 2 will be happening.

Given Disney Plus’s track record, it’s always hard to know when a show might return for a second season or when it’s been envisioned as a one-season, limited series event. Take for example Marvel’s various MCU-set series.

To date, only one of the streaming powerhouse’s three MCU dramas has secured a second season with WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier seeming to have been designed as a one-season series.

This has made fans wonder what the Mouse House has planned for its various Star Wars entities and whether more seasons could be coming for The Bad Batch or if this could be a one-and-done event.

Is The Bad Batch canceled?

The good news for fans of The Bad Batch is that Disney seems quite invested in its latest animated original program and has already confirmed the show will be returning for a second season.

In announcing the show’s renewal ahead of the season 1 finale, Disney Plus president Michael Paull, praised the fans for their support of the show while confirming a second season will be coming to the streaming service soon:

"“Fans have enthusiastically embraced the action and drama of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and we are excited to see the Star Wars animated universe continue to expand on Disney Plus. As the dedicated streaming home for the Star Wars franchise, we can’t wait for the second season of this fan-favorite animated series.”"

Will there be a season 2 of The Bad Batch?

Star Wars: The Batch Batch season 2 is indeed happening. As confirmed by Disney Plus on Aug. 5, 2021, the breakout animated series will return for a second season following its successful 16-episode first season.

The Bad Batch season 2 release date

At this time, Disney Plus has not confirmed when The Bad Batch season 2 will be coming, though we do know not to expect season 2 anytime this year. While Disney Plus has not set an official premiere date for the show’s second season, the company has confirmed season 2 will be coming sometime in 2022.

Should season 2 of The Bad Batch follow a similar release date plan as season 1, it’s likely we could see the second season of the series arrive sometime in May 2022.
