New details are out about what’s next for the former Mandalorian star Gina Carano. According to a report from Deadline, the actress is set to star in a new revenge thriller called The Hitcher.

This will be Carano’s first on-screen project since her firing from Lucasfilm and The Mandalorian, but it’s a project that has been teased for several months now. Following her firing, it was revealed that she would be doing a film in partnership with The Daily Wire. But since February, those were the only details we knew about what she would be doing post-The Mandalorian up until now.

The movie is based on the novel White Knuckle. And, as Deadline describes: “The story follows a strong-willed woman who survives an attempt by serial killer-trucker ‘White Knuckle.’ Haunted by her encounter and the cops’ inability to catch her tormentor, she partners with a trucker to end the killer’s reign of terror.”

Carano, who will also be producing the movie, said in a statement:

"I’m completely ignited to be creating this thriller with The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. I feel I am exactly where I want and need to be at this moment in my life; it feels as if I have wings."

The Mandalorian without Gina Carano

One thing that’s still yet to be officially confirmed by Lucasfilm is if Carano’s character in The Mandalorian, Cara Dune, would be recast or cut out from the series altogether.

A report from earlier this year claimed from its sources that Disney was not considering recasting the role. And there has been some other evidence as well that points to the character being cut.

For example, there had been some whispers of a Cara Dune spinoff that was scrapped by Lucasfilm once she was fired. (Or, rather, Rangers of the New Republic could have been the show she was supposed to be in). And it also seemed like The Mandalorian team may have had to make some big changes to the overarching story because Carano is out of the picture.

With filming coming up soon for the next season, word has been mum about any potential re-casting for the character. And with all of that considered, it seems like Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and the rest of the team will more than likely move ahead without Cara Dune in The Mandalorian season 3.

Though, we’re still about a year away from the season coming out. So as we near closer to 2022, we’ll likely see more info about the plot of season 3 and how that involves Cara Dune’s character.
