By Cody Schultz
This fall, Disney Plus’s Star Wars Originals catalog will expand once more with the arrival of what promises to be one of the most-talked-about Disney Plus originals of the fall season, Star Wars: Visions.
In this new anthology series, Lucasfilm will look to tell a series of new Star Wars stories through anime short films available to view both with the original Japanese voice cast as well as via the English dub cast — both of which are stacked with incredible talent.
The series is sure to be the latest hit for the studio which has thus far enjoyed hit after hit beginning with the launch of The Mandalorian and most recently with Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
Below we share everything Disney Plus has revealed so far about its first official foray into anime including the release date, cast information, synopsis, and trailer for the new series Star Wars: Visions.
Star Wars: Visions release date
Star Wars: Visions will debut on Disney Plus on Wednesday, Sept. 22, making it the first Star Wars original series from Disney Plus to stream on Wednesdays rather than on Fridays. It is unclear what Disney Plus’s plan is for releasing the seven short films that make up the anthology series, but it is expected a new short could be coming every week should Disney Plus follow a more standard release schedule.

Star Wars: Visions synopsis
Per Disney, Lucasfilm’s first venture into anime will unfold across a collection of animated original short films hailing from several iconic anime studios, with each bringing its own unique style to the collection.
Among the studios involved in the making of Star Wars: Visions season 1 are Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio (Twin Engine), Studio Colorido (Twin Engine), TRIGGER, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, and Production I.G.
Here’s how Disney Plus officially describes the project:
"As a first formal venture into anime, each Star Wars: Visions short bears a unique Japanese sensibility, which in many ways aligns with the tone and spirit of Star Wars storytelling. From the beginning, stories told in the Star Wars galaxy have counted Japanese mythology and the films of Akira Kurosawa among their many influences, and these new visions will further explore that cultural heritage through the unique animation style and perspective of each anime studio."
